TEAM NEWS: Howard Motorsports, Dysons Looking to Repeat Success in Brumos Porsche 250

When the #16 Thetford / Norcold Racing Team from Howard Motorsports rolls into the Daytona International Speedway this week for the Brumos Porsche 250, both team and drivers Rob and Chris Dyson will be looking to repeat their success at this track and event.

In June, 2005, the Howard Motorsports Team of Butch Leitzinger and Elliott Forbes-Robinson won the Grand-Am Rolex Series Brumos Porsche 250, besting a star-studded field of sports car racers and teams. Now, the Denver, North Carolina-based team returns to the 3.56-mile, 12-turn Daytona course with Rob and Chris Dyson piloting their #16 Thetford / Norcold Porsche Crawford. The Dyson family has certainly enjoyed their measure of success at the "World Center of Racing" as well.

Chris Dyson teamed with James Weaver to win the 2002 Brumos Porsche 250, and captured another 250-mile event with Weaver at Daytona in November of '02. Father Rob Dyson won the 1997 Rolex 24 At Daytona teaming with Elliott Forbes-Robinson, Andy Wallace, Butch Leitzinger, John Paul Jr., and John Schneider. The senior Dyson also captured the SR Class victory in 2000 in the Rolex 24 with Weaver, EFR, and Max Papis. So, whether you talk about the team or its drivers, both know where victory lane is located at Daytona International Speedway.

"It's always a thrill to return to Daytona," Chris Dyson stated. "There's so much heritage at the track, and the crowd for the Brumos Porsche 250 is always quite good."

"We have had some great successes at Daytona over the years, and my Dad and I are really looking forward to driving together again here," Dyson added. "I did one of my first prototype races driving with Dad here (Daytona) in 2001, and he and I finished 1-2 in the finale the next year. Dad's won the Rolex 24 At Daytona and he dearly loves Daytona. For the Dysons, Daytona is an important part of our lives."

Howard Motorsports tested the #16 Thetford / Norcold Porsche Crawford at Daytona last month, and left the track with high hopes upon their return this week.

"Rob (Dyson) had an outstanding two days of testing the Porsche Crawford at Daytona," Rick Howard, President of Howard Motorsports commented. "Both Rob and the team really worked hard during the test in preparation for the upcoming Brumos Porsche 250. Rob ran lots of laps during the test and is in great shape for this race. Rob's excitement is infectious, and the entire Howard Motorsports Team is feeding off his excitement level. This race is always very competitive, but both our team and drivers know how to win."
