GRAND AM NEWS: Fogarty Lands Fourth Straight Rolex Series Daytona Prototype Pole Friday at Iowa

Photo by John Thawley NEWTON, Iowa (July 13, 2007) -- Long, intermediate and now, short courses, too. Jon Fogarty scored the No. 99 GAINSCO/Bob Stallings Racing Pontiac Riley team's fourth straight pole position Friday in Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series presented by Crown Royal Special Reserve Daytona Prototype competition for Friday evening's two-and-a-half hour race at Iowa Speedway.

Fogarty, who has won the last three Daytona Prototype races with co-driver Alex Gurney, scorched around the 1.3-mile, nine-turn stadium track in a time of 41.709 seconds (112.206 mph), nearly a half second faster than Memo Rojas. The pole was also GAINSCO's fifth straight, as Gurney won the pole at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, and extended the front row starting streak to nine for the No. 99 team.

Rojas, who co-drives the No. 01 TELMEX Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates Lexus Riley with co-driver Scott Pruett, notched a time of 42.121 seconds (111.108 mph) and will start second, the car's second front row starting spot in the last four races. In both previous races the No. 01 has started on the front row in 2007, its drivers have finished on the podium. Pruett led the day's second practice session.

Jan Magnussen, who returns to the No. 10 SunTrust Racing Pontiac Riley with Max Angelelli after missing three straight races, will start third after a lap of 42.191 seconds (110.924 mph). Starting alongside will be No. 58 Brumos Racing Brumos Porsche/Red Bull Porsche Riley starting driver Darren Law, who turned in a time of 42.487 seconds (110.151 mph). Law is sharing the No. 58 with David Donohue.

Rounding out the top five will be No. 19 Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates starting driver Rob Finlay, whose co-driver Michael Valiante led Friday morning's practice session. Finlay turned in a time of 42.537 seconds (110.022 mph), a career-best starting position.

NASCAR Nextel Cup Series regular Mark Martin was unable to return to Iowa due his NASCAR commitments at Chicagoland Speedway and will start from the rear of the field in the No. 3 Southard Motorsports Preformed Line Products TrueChoice Motorsports Lexus Riley. Martin is sharing the car with regulars Shane Lewis and Randy Ruhlman.

Drivers are scheduled to take the green flag at 8 p.m. Friday.
