TEAM NEWS: AUTOCON COMING TO GRIPS WITH CREATION PROTOTYPE

Photo by John Thawley After recently retiring the Lola EX257 earlier this year, Autocon Motorsports found the podium for the first time this year with its new Creation CA06H chassis powered by a naturally-aspirated Judd V10 engine, only the team's second race with the new prototype.

"A switch in chassis in mid-season is a challenge for any team and being the smallest team in the paddock it's particularly tough for us," said Michael Lewis, owner and driver of the No. 12 JeanRichard Watches Creation.

Overcoming setup difficulties and fierce competition, the team planned accordingly for Lime Rock's notorious traffic. Because of his previous visits to the Park, Lewis knew a thing or two about how to get around the track. "Survival is always the primary strategy at Lime Rock and that's how we finished third," said Lewis, who teamed with Chris McMurry. "You're always in traffic at Lime Rock and this race was no exception."

Their finish in the P1 class earns them valuable championship points and strengthens the team's understanding of their new car. Successful testing at Utah's Miller Motorsports Park and Road Atlanta earlier in the season proved beneficial at Lime Rock.

The next step in the development of the Autocon Creation comes at Mid-Ohio and the Acura Sports Car Challenge. Lewis and the rest of the Autocon team hope to use the lessons learned on the twists and turns of Lime Rock Park.

"Lime Rock pointed out the fact that while the car runs very well at higher speed tracks - it ran great at our Atlanta test a couple weeks ago - it has issues on tight, bumpy circuits," Lewis said. "Mid-Ohio is not particularly bumpy but is definitely tight and doesn't give much grip. We're fairly certain that we'll be in for a struggle there in getting the car set up, but Lime Rock gave us a couple things to try so hopefully it will be better."
