TEAM NEWS: Gigliotti and Peterson qualify their LGM Corvettes 6th and 8th at Watkins Glen

Photo by John Thawley Watkins Glen New York (June 9, 2007): Lou Gigliotti, of Dallas Texas, qualified his LG Pro Long Tube Headers Chevy Corvette C6 into the 6th position during qualifying this morning at Watkins Glen New York for Round 5 of the SPEED World Challenge GT Championship Series. Doug Peterson, of Bonita Springs Florida qualified his Urban Assault – The Movie/3 Dimensional Services Chevy Corvette in 8th position.

Lou Gigliotti avoided a possible penalty for going too wide in the first turn as initially his first two laps had been thrown out for a perceived penalty for putting all four wheels over the rumble strips and out into the asphalt run off area.

“We argued with them about it because I am pretty sure that my right side tires were on the rumble strips,” Gigliotti said.

“That was all I had today,” said a disappointed Gigliotti after the session. “Some of these guys seem to be able to dial it up when they need it.”

The session was red flagged to retrieve James Sofronas’ Porsche which was stranded on the apex of a corner and that also ended the 3rd qualifying lap attempt for both Gigliotti and Doug Peterson as they got off the gas as the approached the turn which was under waving yellow flags.

When the session resumed Lou brought his LGM Corvette back out on the track and made the entire penalty situation moot as he improved his best lap time to a 1:55.718 which moved Gigliotti back up to 6th.

“On my very first lap I think that the tire pressures were a little low and the car didn’t want to turn, so our first lap was going to be kind of a throw away,” Doug Peterson said of his qualifying run. “On my second lap we came up to the left hander out of the boot I was following Lou and there was a waving yellow and Lou checked up a little bit and then I saw the second waving flags really waving so I said something must be really wrong and I really checked up and that ruined that lap.”

“That blew our best lap at that point,” said Gigliotti.

“We came in and after the black flag we went back out but in the traffic I just couldn’t do any better so my first lap ended up being my best lap,” concluded Peterson of his qualifying run.

“That’s OK because my car is going to be awesome for the race,” Peterson said of tomorrow’s race. “This is a tough place to pass but I am going to get around those guys tomorrow!”
