TEAM NEWS: GAINSCO Pontiac On Pole At Mid-Ohio

Photo by John Thawley"The Pontiac Riley package is really working," said Fogarty. "We have another great car under us this weekend. The turn-in of the car is really good and that is what separates us from the rest of the field. At Watkins Glen, we were really strong through the Bus Stop turn. Here our advantage just adds up through 13-turns. I think we can win again from the pole like we did two weeks ago."

Jonathan Cochet in the No. 10 SunTrust Pontiac Riley posted a qualifying time of 1:19.191 good for a fourth place starting position. The French driver will take his second start for the team from Florida and then hand-over to Max Angelelli.

"I am getting more comfortable behind the wheel," Cochet said. "It helps that I have raced here before and I don't really need to learn the track. We had an incident in practice yesterday and damaged the car, but the team did a great job to get it back together last night. On my fast qualifying lap I came up on traffic and lost some time, so I could have gone quicker. I am happy with starting fourth, we are in the second row and know that we have a good race car."

In the No. 12 RVO Motorsports Pontiac Riley Justin Bell posted a run of 1:21.062 that will see him start from the eighth row tomorrow. The Florida based driver, together with co-driver Roger Schramm, is optimistic about the team's progress.

"We make progress with the car every weekend," Bell said. "The team is able to make improvements, but with so little track time and not really any testing we are trying things at the track. We have a low grip threshold on the car, while everyone else has a high traction threshold, that is where we are struggling. We are getting better each time out and improvement is a good thing."

Tracy Krohn in the No. 76 Krohn Pontiac Riley will start from the ninth row based on his 1:21.873 qualifying time. The Texan is teamed with Nic Jonsson and the two will be looking to improve on their seasons best fifth place finish from Watkins Glen.

"We have been really working on the handling," Krohn said. "We tested here a couple of weeks ago so we began the weekend with a pretty good baseline. The weather here really affects the grip and we are just trying to fine tune the setup for the conditions. We had a strong run at The Glen and we are hoping for the same tomorrow."

The DP cars will take the green tomorrow, Saturday, June 23 at 5:45 p.m., the race will be televised, taped delayed, on SPEED Channel the same day starting at 8:00 p.m. EDT. The GT race will go off on Sunday, June 24 at 11:00 a.m. EDT, and will start on SPEED one-hour later at 12:00 p.m. EDT.
