TEAM NEWS: Archer and Mopar Viper Qualify Ninth at Long Beach, Pearson to start from 12th row and Robbins from 14th

Photo by John Thawley LONG BEACH, Calif., April 15, 2007 -- Tommy Archer and his Mopar Viper will start the second round of the SCCA Pro Racing SPEED World Challenge GT Series at Long Beach from the fifth row. Teammates Brett Pearson and Jeffrey Robbins will start 23rd and 27th respectively.

Archer was able to improve on his best overall practice session by a second, he posted a qualifying time of 1:26.087 with an average speed of 82 mph. The closed 1.97-mile, 11-turn ocean front street course is proving to be a challenge for the Autohaus trio.

“We have been chasing the setup of the car all weekend,” Archer said. “The crew has been making the right adjustments and we have showed improvement with each session. In qualifying I had a good lap going and was held up around the fountain by a slower car. It is frustrating, but I have always raced well here and I will take advantage of every opportunity.”

Brett Pearson, piloting the Autohaus Pearson Motorsports No. 7 Viper Competition Coupe, laid down a time of 1:28.746 good for a 12th row starting position for the 50-minute sprint race.

“For my first street race things are going good,” Pearson explained. “The car was confidence inspiring right off the trailer on Friday. I am getting familiar with the track and have been able to make significant improvements in my lap times every session. Going into the race we will be looking to manage our tires so we have something left for the end of the race.”

In the No. 6 Autohaus RSIG Security Viper Jeffrey Robbins delivered a qualifying time of 1:29.519 which will see him take the standing start from the 14th row.

“Every corner looks the same,” Robbins said. “This is my first street race and you really have to adjust your approach to the track. There are walls surrounding the whole track so there is no room for error. In qualifying, I had the window net come down on my out lap and I wanted to put in a time before pitting, so that was a little disconcerting. The team has really come together since the last race and that is helping with my confidence in the car and that pays dividends when I am on the track.”
