TEAM NEWS: Matt Connolly Motorsports to Race Championship-Winning Pontiac GTO.R

Photo by John Thawley PETALUMA, Calif. (April 9, 2007) -- Matt Connolly Motorsports has teamed with 2006 Triple Crown Champions TRG and Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series presented by Crown Royal Special Reserve GT competitors to compete in the balance of the 2007 Rolex Series season in the championship-winning Pontiac GTO.R. Matt Connolly Motorsports will purchase the Pratt & Miller-designed Pontiac, and TRG will help with the hand-off and the team's transition from a technical and mechanical perspective.

The GTO.R proved to be a formidable competitor on-track; in just more than one full season of competition in the Grand-Am Rolex Series, the V8-powered racer wracked up 23 consecutive podium finishes. Nearly every time a GTO.R took the track, a podium finish was the result. Additionally, in 23 races, TRG Pontiac GTO.Rs scored six 1-2 finishes, making the GTO.R one of the most dominant vehicles in sports car racing history.

"I'm thrilled to be acquiring such a substantial race car and joining the Pontiac Racing family," said MCM team owner Matt Connolly. "We've competed with the Pontiacs head-to-head since 2006, and I'll be glad to be behind the wheel of the Pratt & Miller car rather than duking it out with them on-track. This car is a front-running car right out of the box, and I'm thankful that TRG is giving us technical and engineering support for the first few events. We'll be able to immediately offer a competitive platform for our drivers. Now that we've got the GTO.R plan underway, we're actively searching for qualified funded drivers."

"Matt Connolly Motorsports is the embodiment of the Grand-Am model of a GT team," said TRG owner Kevin Buckler. "They are a young, strong, independent team, exactly where we were a few years ago. We will be happy to work with them in the hand-off and the technical assistance to operate the car at a front-running level. We've had a lot of success over the years at TRG, but the sustained success and dominance of the GTO.R was one of the highlights for us.

"Matt and I have been talking for a while now, and I couldn't be happier to help get the cars back on track. MCM has shown a great deal of resolve racing in Grand-Am, and while the GTO.R is a complicated little rocket ship, our organization will help them get up to speed with the nuances of the cars. We welcome MCM's competition in the GT class, even if it is in an ominously competitive car. GT racing is really strong right now and this helps even more."

" We welcome Matt Connolly Motorsports to the family," said Pontiac Racing's Jim Lutz. "We look forward to supporting him with this well-sorted and developed car. We're glad he made the switch to the GTO.R and expect him to be up front soon."

Matt Connolly Motorsports anticipates running its new GTO.R for the first time at the Laguna Seca and for all remaining events in the 2007 season.
