TEAM NEWS: Herta, Marino Franchitti Finish Seventh in the Acura Sports Car Challenge

Photo by John Thawley ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (March 31, 2007) - XM Satellite Radio drivers Bryan Herta and Marino Franchitti finished seventh in the LMP2 class at Saturday's running of the inaugural Acura Sports Car Challenge. The AGR duo finished 21st overall in the 24-car field.

After taking the lead early in the race, Franchitti brushed the wall causing damage to the rear wing. Despite the damage, Franchitti continued in the race until making contact with Ryan Briscoe sending the XM Satellite Radio Acura into the tire barrier. After lengthy repairs, Herta took the wheel for the remainder of the race to earn points to keep the team in contention for the championship.

The team of Allen McNish and Rinaldo Capello took the overall victory in the Acura Sports Car Challenge. In the LMP2 class, the team of Sascha Maassen and Ryan Briscoe captured the win.

The next race on the American Le Mans Series Schedule is the Long Beach Grand Prix on Saturday, April 14.

Bryan Herta, #26 XM Satellite Radio Acura:

"I have to thank the crew. They worked really hard to repair the damage and we just got it done in time to complete enough laps to earn some points. By the time I got into the XM Satellite Radio Acura, all I could do was try to finish enough laps to get us some points. Luckily we were able to do that because it helps in the championship, so this doesn't hurt so bad. We thought we had a good opportunity to win this race and it's just too bad."

Marino Franchitti, #26 XM Satellite Radio Acura:

"I'm disappointed for the whole Andretti Green Racing team. The XM Satellite Radio Acura was fantastic even with the little problems that we had. We had a few radio communication problems. I didn't know I was in the lead at all when we first got the penalty. I didn't know that the pits were open to come in. I knew that they were going to open and I knew to come in. I broke the wing quite early and it was a rookie mistake by me. On the restart, we had old tires and I was just trying to hang on. If we would have come in to pit, we wouldn't have been in that position. Briscoe was a lap down and he just took me out."
