TEAM NEWS: Herr Finishes 4th at Sebring, Takes Sunoco Hard Charger Award

Photo by John Thawley Sebring, Florida (March 16, 2007) STaSIS Motorsports opened the 2007 SPEED World Challenge Touring Car season by placing two cars in the top ten. Chip Herr started 10th in his #17 Clear Capital/STaSIS Audi A4. He improved six positions to 4th earning the Sunoco Hard Charger Award for advancing the most positions during the race. Dino Crescentini piloted his #19 STaSIS Audi A4 to a 9th place finish. Ian Baas had a strong start moving his #18 Clear Capital/STaSIS Audi A4 from 17th position on the grid to 13th position by the end of the first lap. Unfortunately, a mechanical issue forced an early retirement cutting short Baas’ premier World Challenge drive after a promising start.

After the race Herr commented, “I feel good getting such a quality finish in our first race of the season. The STaSIS team put together a fantastic car today. It was very balanced and enabled me to do what I wanted with the car. The only thing that might have been better would have to have the rain begin at the start of the race instead of just after the finish!” Just as the checker flag came out rain drops began to fall, but it was too late to allow the STaSIS drivers to take advantage of the all-wheel drive on their Audis.

Crescentini had some hard contact during the race resulting in suspension damage to his car, but put together a gutsy drive to manage a top ten finish. The SPEED World Challenge season opener at Sebring will be aired on SPEED Sunday March 25th at 1:30pm Eastern Time.

The STaSIS Motorsports team’s next race will be May 17-19th at the 2007 Larry H. Miller Dealers Grand Prix outside Salt Lake City Utah. The SPEED World Challenge Touring Car race is at 2:45pm Saturday May 19th. It will be aired on SPEED Saturday May 26th at 4:00pm Eastern Time.
